The global medical community is taking this condition seriously. They consider it more complex than just job burnout, an inability to manage stress or poor stress management. In March 2019, the World Health Organisation classified excessive stress and burnout as an ‘occupational phenomenon’, going on to say:
Burn-out is a syndrome resulting from chronic stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterised by three dimensions:

Most of our clients have real world responsibilities that they can’t just abandon, so we provide all the business and communication facilities you may need to attend to professional and family responsibilities during your burnout treatment and stress management treatment program. Our support staff act as proxy PAs allowing you to seamlessly integrate business commitments into your program.
Your villa, set in spacious tropical gardens, has been designed with serenity and seclusion in mind. Confidentiality is paramount, and you will be our only client at your chosen location.
Healthy meals prepared by your personal chef aid your physical and mental recovery to a healthy work life balance and the domestic staff take care of your villa. Everything is catered for enabling you to focus fully on regaining your equilibrium through learning how to manage stress in a healthy manner.
Our team will be focused on your personalised treatment – we don’t believe in group therapy or predetermined approaches. In full consultation with you at every stage, we will take steps to optimise your recovery. If you wish, we will liaise with your current practitioners to ensure a seamless transition to our treatment, followed by appropriate aftercare upon your return.

What to expect during your stay at Istana
Your care starts the moment you step off the plane. A senior member of our team will greet you at the plane, fast-track you through immigration and customs and bring you to your villa in a discreet unbranded car.
Your first day is a soft landing, just relax, have a massage and get used to your new surroundings, which will become your home-from-home. Once you’re settled, our doctor will carry out a full health screen to identify not only any medical issues but also to identify issues such as nutrient deficiency and hormonal imbalance. If required you will always have on hand medical support and 24 hour nursing.
From your initial conversations with us and and a further assessment we will create your bespoke burnout treatment program to restore you to optimum health and peace of mind. Throughout this process you will always feel a sense of positive momentum, you will be completely safe and receive world-class care at all times.
Your program will be holistic to heal your mind, body and soul and anchored in psychotherapy sessions where you will learn new ways to manage stress and come away fully armed with stress management tools.
Burnout can be triggered by work related stress, but this is not always the case. Therefore, your therapist will help you look at other issues in your life. As you progress, you will together agree goals best suited to your ongoing recovery.
All your therapy sessions are informal and relaxed, and take place in your private villa. We find that, for most clients, the optimum amount is three or four sessions per week. If you require more, we will provide whatever level is best for you.
Throughout your stay, there will always be a member of staff discretely on hand to anticipate your needs. You’ll never feel isolated, nor will you ever feel ‘crowded’. Our Director of Client Services will be your main point of contact. They will co-ordinate your programme and deal with any concerns you have immediately.
Physical activity is one of the best ways to manage stress, so it will play an important role in your program at Istana. Days generally begin and end with a walk on the beach. If you want you can catch a morning surf, go for a swim or even horse-riding. Complementary pursuits are central to your treatment, and often include include yoga, personal training, martial arts, meditation, nature walks, art therapy and many, many more.
We also want you to have fun, tell us what you want to do and we’ll arrange it. Surfing, hiking, diving, snorkelling, sailing, cultural experiences, dining out etc. just name it.
Complementary and relaxation practices work hand in hand with psychotherapy to help you develop a new relationship with your body and mind. You learn to implement a healthy balance between health of mind, body and soul and understand its need for peak performance and well-being. This is an important part of any healing, but particularly so when moving beyond stress and anxiety.
We find that a balance of familiarity and challenge can be very helpful. We want you to rediscover old passions and fall in love with new ones. As you move more, your body and mind will become increasingly calm.
Results of your program
Very quickly you will feel yourself unwinding and able to relax. Your fitness levels will improve and mental clarity will return. Any brain fog or racing thoughts will fade away, and you will have discovered new ways to deal with the challenges that life brings, and make decisions that bring more happiness and fulfilment into your life.
When your time at Istana has reached its end, you will feel energised and able to look to your future with confidence and understanding. You will be restored to optimum physical and mental health, armed with a complete set of stress management tools to help you achieve a healthy work life balance without any adverse effect on your performance.
