An Effective Treatment Approach
Your time is valuable and we won’t waste it. Whilst we are progressive thinkers our approach for each client is results focused, designed for the optimum sustainable outcome within the time of your availability. Therefore our methodology is precise, utilising the best, evidence based and most up to date treatments for depression, anxiety, burnout and substance dependencies. We are unique in combining proven and cutting edge treatments with complementary and traditional techniques to achieve lasting results for clients.
Single Client Immersion
We work with one client at a time in a discreet and private treatment setting.
Extensive research has proven that the group approach, while convenient for the service provider, does not produce good outcomes for clients. The group approach requires clients to be pushed into preset treatment programs, timetables and therapies. The individual’s needs and choices are overshadowed by the convenience of the group. Group dynamics can be unhelpful and the loss of privacy and confidentiality can prevent clients who require discretion from seeking therapy.
The single client immersion method allows our team to concentrate all its efforts on a single client for the best lasting results and lifelong change. By treating one client at a time, our team can take the time and devote sufficient resources to fully understanding the needs and goals of each client and to work with that client to design the most effective treatment plan.
Luxury Private Accommodation
Recovery is enhanced in an atmosphere characterised by tranquility, comfort, harmony and privacy.
Our clients are accommodated in luxurious, comfortable, spacious 5 star villas. All of our villas have at least three bedrooms, a pool, private gardens, ample room for treatments and relaxation and elegant dining.
Our villas are located amongst some of Bali’s most beautiful tropical settings in proximity to cultural and recreational amenities.
Each villa is fully staffed with a chef, manager, maid and dedicated car and driver.
A Tailored Treatment Program for Each Client
We believe that each client who joins our program brings their own experience, knowledge, beliefs, strengths and challenges. No two clients are alike.
Based on each client’s current physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs and conditions, interests and beliefs, we design a program of therapies, experiences and activities to make a client’s time with us lead to radical and enduring change.
Compassion and Respect
The conditions we treat are illnesses not moral deficiencies, lack of willpower or lack of strength. We treat our clients with respect, understanding and compassion. We do not judge or apply unhelpful labels. We help our clients recognise and enhance the parts of their lives that are working well while developing and integrating new skills and confidences.
An Integrated, Multi-Disciplinary and Collaborative Approach to Treatment
Integrative treatment has its starting point in the principle of mind-body unity and is built on the premise that human beings in health and disease are complex systems of dynamically interacting biological, psychological, social, energetic, informational and spiritual processes.
Integrative treatment can be applied to most illnesses. It incorporates a variety of therapeutic procedures that overlap and are complementary. It requires cooperation of different professionals, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, dieticians and other relevant disciplines.
The collaborative team at Istana Jiwa includes doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, physical therapists, massage therapists, personal trainers, art therapists, nutritionists, yoga and meditation teachers.
Many of our clients run businesses or have career and family commitments which cannot be put completely on hold during their stay with us. Our flexible approach allows therapists to work in coordination with our clients’ obligations.
Healing with Food
People experiencing substance dependency, alcoholism, depression and stress often also suffer from nutritional deficiencies. That is, the lack of nutrients essential for mental, physical and emotional health.
We believe that the introduction of nutrient rich, delicious foods can enhance recovery from all illnesses and increase energy and vitality. Meal plans at Istana Jiwa are prepared by our nutritionist and chef taking into account our clients’ tastes, preferences and cultural requirements. Meals are plentiful, colourful, delicious and healthy.
Recreation as Therapy
For many people suffering from substance dependency, alcoholism, anxiety, depression or burnout, fun and laughter are distant childhood memories. Shifting away from dependence on substances and destructive behaviors and moving towards real life positive experiences is an essential part of the program of recovery at Istana Jiwa.
Simple activities such as walking in the jungle or rice field, swimming under a waterfall or snorkeling can greatly enhance mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. Many of our clients find a new passion in life such as scuba diving, mountain trekking, travel or cycling.
Finding a creative outlet has demonstrable health and wellbeing benefits. We work with you to identify an existing or new passion. We find a course or teacher to rekindle that passion as an integral part of your therapy. Creative endeavors may include a photography course with excursions around the island, contemporary dancing classes, singing classes, art classes, ceramics and many more.
You may want to try new experience or return to one you know you enjoy. Because you are an individual and we wish to enhance your experience we have compiled an extensive “menu” of activities, experiences and classes for you to incorporate into your program at Istana Jiwa.
Gender Specific Treatment
Historically, substance abuse treatment has developed as a single-focused intervention based on the needs of dependent men. Therapists focused only on the habit and assumed that other issues would either resolve themselves through recovery or would be dealt with by another professional at a later time.
However, treatment for women’s dependency may be ineffective unless it acknowledges the realities of women’s lives, which include the high prevalence of violence and other types of abuse. A history of being abused increases the likelihood that a woman will abuse alcohol and other substances. The Women’s Integrated Treatment (WlT) model is based on three foundational theories: relational-cultural theory, addiction theory and trauma theory.
